Lauren Graphics Inc. is a small design firm in Englewood, CO.

CHALLENGE: Our agency needed a fresh new site—one that was fun and creative while conforming to our brand standards. It had to reflect who we are as a company and as a team. It had to tell our story while acting as a portfolio site with room to grow.

SOLUTION: I worked on the UI alongside my teammate and developer, who custom-coded the theme. The owner wanted to focus on the idea that this is where you come for great ideas. A sketchy image of a lightbulb was to be our inspiration.

We took this idea of a sketch further by choosing a “doodley” hand-drawn font for our H1s, using some of our own project sketches as background imagery, sprinkling glimpses of our process throughout the site, creating caricatures of the whole team for our bios, and designing custom service icons with our ‘g’ integrated. All of these small elements added the creative, hands-on touch the owner was looking for.

The navigation and information architecture was fairly straightforward—the portfolio would be divided into 3 sections: web, print, and branding. Wherever the user was on the site, they needed easy access to the menu, which we chose to keep mobile for all screens/devices, or the ability to contact us, which we added to the global footer in the form of a big blue button. No forms. No opt-ins. Owner’s orders.
